Public Holidays 2027 in Singapore: Dates, Long Weekends and Leave Planner

30 October 2026 · 10 min read

TL;DR – The Quick Version

Singapore's 11 public holidays in 2027 are New Year's Day (Friday 1 January), Chinese New Year (Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February, with Monday 8 February off), Hari Raya Puasa (Wednesday 10 March), Good Friday (26 March), Labour Day (Saturday 1 May), Hari Raya Haji (Monday 17 May), Vesak Day (Thursday 20 May), National Day (Monday 9 August), Deepavali (Thursday 28 October) and Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December). Five long weekends need no leave. Three holidays fall on a Saturday and bring no Monday off. Eight days of leave, taken on the days schools close, give a family 20 days off together. Browse public holiday activities on Jungle.

Those are the 11 Singapore public holidays for 2027, as the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) published them on 18 June 2026. On paper it is an ordinary year. For a family that works Monday to Friday, it is less generous than 2026.

Three of the 11 fall on a Saturday, against one in 2026, and none of the three moves to a Monday. There are five long weekends, one fewer than in 2026. Schools, meanwhile, close on three days that are not public holidays: Tuesday 9 February, Monday 3 May and Monday 27 December.

This guide takes every holiday from MOM's own pages and every school date from MOE's, all read on 30 October 2026. It covers the Sunday and Saturday rules, what MOM says about the two Hari Raya dates, the long weekends, a leave planner, where the long weekends meet the school holidays, and one family idea for each. For school terms, see our 2027 school holidays guide.

MOM gazettes 11 holidays a year, and Chinese New Year counts as two of them. Employees covered by the Employment Act get all 11 as paid holidays.

The dates people look up most

  • Chinese New Year 2027: Saturday 6 and Sunday 7 February. Monday 8 February is the public holiday for the Sunday, and MOE closes schools on Tuesday 9 February as well.
  • Hari Raya 2027: Hari Raya Puasa is Wednesday 10 March and Hari Raya Haji is Monday 17 May. See below for how firm those dates are.
  • Good Friday 2027: 26 March, so Easter Sunday is 28 March. Easter Monday is not a public holiday in Singapore.
  • Vesak Day 2027: Thursday 20 May, three days after Hari Raya Haji.
  • National Day 2027: Monday 9 August. Schools also close on Tuesday 10 August.
  • Deepavali 2027: Thursday 28 October.

When a Holiday Falls on a Sunday or a Saturday

Sunday: the next working day is the holiday. MOM's rule is that a public holiday on your rest day moves to the next working day. In 2027 that happens once. The second day of Chinese New Year is Sunday 7 February, so Monday 8 February is off. MOM's page adds that this applies if your rest day falls on 7 February, which covers anyone whose rest day is Sunday.

Saturday: a day off or a day's pay, not a Monday. For a five-day week, MOM counts Saturday as your non-working day and Sunday as your rest day. A public holiday on a non-working day entitles you to another day off or an extra day's salary in lieu. MOM does not name the day. In 2027 this happens three times: 6 February, 1 May and 25 December.

If the Employment Act does not cover you, MOM says your employment contract decides. Either way, ask HR in January which you will get for each Saturday, and on which day, before you book anything.

Schools follow MOE, not MOM. MOE has added three designated days off in lieu for schools: Tuesday 9 February (Monday 8 February is already a public holiday), Monday 3 May and Monday 27 December. On those days school general offices, school-based student care centres and KCare centres close too. If your child is in student care, those are the three days to plan for.

Hari Raya Puasa and Hari Raya Haji: Fixed Dates or Moon Sighting?

MOM prints both as fixed dates: Hari Raya Puasa on Wednesday 10 March and Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May. Neither its holidays page nor its 18 June announcement marks them as provisional or subject to the moon, and its downloadable 2027 calendar lists every holiday as confirmed.

Its FAQ explains where the dates come from. MOM consults the religious boards on the five religious holidays (Good Friday, Vesak Day, Hari Raya Puasa, Hari Raya Haji and Deepavali) to arrive at projected dates, and says some may take longer to confirm.

In Singapore the projection is a calculation, not a wait for the sky. Muis says cloud makes the new crescent very hard to see here, so Singapore uses astronomical criteria agreed with Brunei, Indonesia and Malaysia. The Mufti still makes the formal announcement the evening before Hari Raya Puasa. In 2025 it matched MOM's date, Monday 31 March.

The dates can still move. In October 2021, after the four countries revised those criteria, MOM gazetted new dates for both Hari Rayas in 2022: 3 May and 10 July. If you book a trip around 10 March or 17 May, check MOM's page again before you pay.

Across the Causeway the day can differ. Muis notes that Singapore and its neighbours started Islamic months on different days in 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021 and 2022, because the others rely on sighting the moon. If you celebrate with family in Malaysia or Indonesia, check their date too.

Long Weekends in 2027

Five come with no leave if you work Monday to Friday:

Long weekendDatesDays
New Year's DayFri 1 to Sun 3 Jan3
Chinese New YearSat 6 to Mon 8 Feb3
Good FridayFri 26 to Sun 28 Mar3
Hari Raya HajiSat 15 to Mon 17 May3
National DaySat 7 to Mon 9 Aug3

Two depend on your employer. Labour Day (Saturday 1 May) and Christmas Day (Saturday 25 December) become long weekends only if your day off in lieu lands on the Monday, or you take that Monday as leave. Schools are closed on both Mondays.

Three are midweek. Hari Raya Puasa is a Wednesday. Vesak Day and Deepavali are Thursdays, so one day of leave on the Friday gives four days off.

Mid-May is the best value of the year. Hari Raya Haji on Monday 17 May and Vesak Day on Thursday 20 May sit in the same week. The planner below shows how far three days of leave go.

One day of leave buys four days off four times in 2027: Tuesday 9 February, Friday 21 May, Tuesday 10 August and Friday 29 October. The biggest block for the least leave is mid-May: three days give nine days off, Saturday 15 to Sunday 23 May. The first row uses 2026 leave, so book it now if you want it.

Which bridges your child gets too

Only some of these match the school calendar. On Tuesday 9 February, Monday 3 May and Tuesday 10 August schools are closed, so one day of leave on each gives the whole family the same long weekend. Both Christmas-to-New-Year runs fall inside the year end holidays.

The rest cost school days if the children come along: three for the Chinese New Year week (10 to 12 February), two for Hari Raya Puasa, four for Good Friday (Term II starts on 22 March), three for mid-May, and one each for Vesak Day and Deepavali.

A family plan for 2027. Eight days of 2027 leave, on 9 February, 3 May, 10 August and 27 to 31 December, give 20 days off in four blocks, every one of them a day your child is off school too. If your employer gives days off rather than pay for the three Saturday holidays, ask for them on 9 February, 3 May and 27 December, and the same plan costs five days of leave.

These are MOE dates. Childcare centres and private preschools set their own closures, so check with yours.

How the Long Weekends Meet the 2027 School Holidays

MOE's four 2027 breaks, from its 14 July 2026 announcement, are the March holidays (13 to 21 March), June holidays (29 May to 27 June), September holidays (4 to 12 September) and year end holidays (20 November to 31 December). Our 2027 school holidays guide has the full term calendar and 18 international schools' breaks.

  • No public holiday falls in the March, June or September holidays. Christmas Day is the only 2027 public holiday inside a school break.
  • March holidays 2027. Hari Raya Puasa on Wednesday 10 March comes three days before they start, but children are in school on Thursday 11 and Friday 12 March. Good Friday comes five days after they end. Five days of leave, 15 to 19 March, give nine days off with your children. Adding 11 and 12 March makes 12 days, but they miss two school days.
  • New Year. The New Year long weekend is the last before school. Primary 1 and Kindergarten 1 start on Monday 4 January, Primary 2 to 6 and Kindergarten 2 on Tuesday 5 January.
  • June and September. Vesak Day is nine days before the June holidays start. National Day is almost four weeks before the September break.
  • Christmas. Children are already on holiday. MOE's day in lieu, Monday 27 December, still matters if your child is in a school-based student care centre, which closes that day.
  • School-only days off. Children also get days off that are not public holidays: Monday 5 July for Youth Day, Friday 3 September for Teachers' Day, which runs into the September holidays, and Friday 8 October for Children's Day at primary schools. The school holidays guide lists them with the rest.

One Family Idea for Each Long Weekend

One idea per long weekend, each linking a Jungle guide or list with the details. First, a warning about the three days schools add next to a public holiday.

Three popular outdoor play spaces close on exactly those days. The Children's Garden at Gardens by the Bay, and Clusia Cove and Forest Ramble at Jurong Lake Gardens, close on a Tuesday after a Monday public holiday. Clusia Cove and Forest Ramble also close on Mondays that are not holidays, and the Children's Garden opens only Thursday to Sunday in term time.

On their current rules, all three are shut on Tuesday 9 February, Monday 3 May and Tuesday 10 August.

  • New Year, 1 to 3 January. The last weekend before school. Go to Marina Bay by daylight: the Children's Garden at Gardens by the Bay is free and open on public holidays, and Marina Barrage and the river walk are close by. Our Marina Bay guide has the hours and prices.
  • Chinese New Year, 6 to 9 February. Visiting fills the first two days. Tuesday 9 February is the children's extra day off, so save the outing for it and head indoors or to a mall. Our free mall playgrounds guide lists the ones that are open, region by region.
  • Hari Raya Puasa, 10 March. The Geylang Serai Heritage Gallery tells the story of Geylang Serai in about half an hour, with Geylang Serai Market next door for lunch. Go in the March holidays: on term-time weekdays the gallery is closed to the public until 4.30pm. Both are in our Kallang, Paya Lebar and Geylang guide.
  • Good Friday, 26 to 28 March. The first weekend after the March holidays, and Easter weekend. Spend a day on Sentosa: the Boardwalk from HarbourFront, then Palawan Beach and Fort Siloso. Our HarbourFront, Telok Blangah and Sentosa guide has the free and paid options.
  • Labour Day, 1 to 3 May. If you take Monday 3 May, go to the farms in the north-west. Qian Hu Fish Farm opens on weekdays from 9am to 6pm. Our Kranji, Lim Chu Kang and Tengah guide covers Hay Dairies' goat farm, Nature Kindred's indoor kid farm and Bollywood Farms nearby. Check each one's opening days there before you go.
  • Hari Raya Haji, 15 to 17 May. A weekend for water play. Jungle's water play list covers park playgrounds with water features and the water parks. Clusia Cove at Jurong Lake Gardens is open on the Monday holiday but closed on Tuesday 18 May.
  • Vesak Day, 20 May. A Thursday with school on Friday, so keep it to an afternoon. Forest Ramble and Clusia Cove at Jurong Lake Gardens open on public holidays, and our Jurong East and Jurong Lake Gardens guide says what to bring.
  • National Day, 7 to 10 August. A long weekend for the National Museum, the National Gallery and the National Orchid Garden, all on Jungle's National Day list. The outdoor play spaces above are closed on Tuesday 10 August, the school holiday after it.
  • Deepavali, 28 October. Go on the Thursday itself, because Friday is a school day. The Indian Heritage Centre and the streets of Little India are a short walk apart, and both are in our Bugis, Bras Basah and Little India guide.
  • Christmas, 25 to 27 December. Children are on the year end holidays already. Our Christmas with kids guide covers the 2026 light-ups, shows, workshops and camps. Nothing for December 2027 is announced yet.

How We Checked These Dates

Every public holiday comes from MOM: its public holidays page (last updated 19 June 2026), its 18 June 2026 announcement and its 2027 calendar file. The Sunday and Saturday rules are from MOM's public holidays entitlement page. School dates are from MOE's 14 July 2026 announcement and its calendar page, and the Hari Raya background from Muis. All were read on 30 October 2026, as were the opening rules for the play spaces named above.

Leave counts are ours, for a Monday-to-Friday job. If MOM revises a date, we will update this page.
