Children's Day 2026 In Singapore: The Date And What's On

Children’s Day 2026 falls on Friday 2 October. It is a full school holiday for primary schools and MOE kindergartens, and pre-schools close that day too. Secondary schools, junior colleges and Millennia Institute stay open, and it is not a public holiday, so most parents are working. The celebrations and the early dismissal happen the day before, on Thursday 1 October. The biggest thing on is Esplanade’s Octoburst! festival, and every single programme is free.

The most common question about Children’s Day is the simplest one, and the answer is more awkward than most guides admit: the celebration and the day off are not the same day. Your child probably comes home at half past ten on Thursday having eaten cake, and then has Friday off entirely.

Here is exactly who is off and when, taken from the Ministry of Education’s own calendar, followed by everything we could confirm is actually on. Every item below was checked on the organiser’s own website in the last few days.

If you have one child in primary school and another in secondary, only one of them is home on the Friday. And because it is not a public holiday, childcare rather than celebration is the real problem most families are solving.

Octoburst!, And It Is All Free

Esplanade runs Octoburst! – A Children’s Festival on Children’s Day itself, and in Esplanade’s own words it is staged “in conjunction with Children’s Day”. Every programme listed for 2 October is tagged free on their own site. This is comfortably the biggest thing happening on the day.

Two things to watch on the Octoburst! listing. “A Universe In Sounds” runs on 3 and 4 October, not on Children’s Day, so it is a weekend outing rather than a Friday one. And “PIP’s Arts Adventure” is marked for schools only, so families cannot turn up to it. Check individual programme times on Esplanade’s own page before you go, because they are staggered across the day.

While you are there, PIP's PLAYbox is in the same building on Level 4 and is also free, though every visitor has to register, including a baby in arms. It runs 11am to 6pm and closes between 2pm and 3pm for cleaning, which is the detail that catches people out.

Free Museums That Cover The Day

None of these is a Children’s Day promotion, which is exactly why they are reliable: they cannot quietly expire the week you plan around them.

Children’s Museum Singapore is free for everyone, not just citizens and permanent residents, from 29 September to 12 November 2026. That covers Children’s Day. There are conditions and you will be turned away without them: timeslots must be pre-booked at 9am, 11am, 2pm or 4pm and each runs 1 hour 45 minutes, tickets become invalid if you are more than ten minutes late, Level 2 including the Into the Hawkerverse gallery is closed for the free period, and the museum shuts completely from 5 to 7 October. Adults are only admitted when accompanying a child.

National Gallery Singapore’s Keppel Centre for Art Education is free to everyone regardless of nationality, with no admission ticket needed at all. It is on Level 1 and it is the best free indoor space for children in the city centre. General admission to the Gallery is separately free for citizens and permanent residents.

The National Museum of Singapore is free for citizens and permanent residents in the permanent galleries, and free for all children aged six and under. Note that free entry covers the permanent galleries only, so a special exhibition can still be charged at the door.

The One Thing A Child Gets Free

We checked about thirty operators for a Children’s Day child discount or free child entry. McDonald’s is the only one we could confirm. Ask staff for a “Promise Bookmark”, let your child choose how they want to celebrate and sign it, then show it at the counter for a free vanilla cone. It runs 24 September to 7 October, so it covers the Thursday, the Friday and the whole weekend.

The bookmark is not available at six restaurants: NTU, Temasek Polytechnic, Caltex Dunearn, Shell Tampines, Shell Hougang and Shell Havelock. Worth knowing before you make a special trip.

Children’s Day Activities At Play Venues

A handful of venues are running Children’s Day programming. To be clear about what these are: they are activities included with, or on top of, normal admission, not discounts.

If You Just Want Somewhere To Take Them

Realistically, most families spend Children’s Day at a playground rather than a festival. We have just priced fifty indoor playgrounds across Singapore, reading every rate card at source, in indoor playgrounds in Singapore and what they really cost. It covers which ones let an adult in on the child’s ticket, which charge for grip socks at the door, and which of the free ones are worth the trip.

Two things from it that are worth knowing before a Friday outing. A school holiday counts as peak at several venues, so check which rate applies on 2 October rather than assuming the weekday one. And if your week has any flexibility, Thursday 1 October is a normal weekday at most places, with your child already home from 10.30am.

October Has More Days Off Than You Expect

One more for the calendar. Primary pupils are also off for the PSLE Marking Exercise from Monday 12 to Wednesday 14 October, when schools state that students need not report. That is three consecutive weekdays, and it is worth booking anything popular early, because far fewer parents plan for it than for a school holiday.
