Piano Lessons for Kids in Katong and Marine Parade: 5 Schools Ranked (2026)

Two of the piano schools in this guide share a building. Joy Music Studio is on the second floor of Parkway Centre at 1 Marine Parade Central, Juzmusic Academy is on the ninth, and Marine Parade MRT station opens at the foot of the block. Edvox teaches piano less than 100 metres away at Block 86. A parent in Marine Parade can compare three schools in one afternoon on foot.

The other surprise is how little the ratings tell you. All five schools below rate between 4.6 and 4.8 on Google. That is a gap of two tenths of a star. So this guide ranks on rating weighted by the number of reviews, and then spends its words on what actually separates the schools: which exam board they teach to, how young they start, whether lessons are one to one or in a group, and whether they publish a price. Only one publishes its monthly fees.

1. Aureus Academy, KINEX

Aureus runs more than 30 studios in Singapore, and its Katong-area branch is in the basement of KINEX, the mall on Tanjong Katong Road beside Paya Lebar. Every lesson is one to one. Beginners work through Aureus's own piano curriculum, five grades of illustrated "storybook" lesson books, and the school's own certification is run in partnership with the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama. A child who wants a recognised exam can prepare for ABRSM or Trinity instead.

It is the only school in this list that publishes its monthly fees, and they are not low: four 30-minute lessons cost $279 a month, which is $69.75 a lesson. Aureus also has a studio at i12 Katong, #03-05/06, which this ranking counts as the same provider.

Why kids will love it: The lesson books read like adventure stories, and children collect skill points, badges and plushies as they clear each milestone. Nobody waits while a classmate plays, because the teacher is theirs for the whole lesson. Performances happen in Aureus's own recital halls. Aureus says most children start piano at four or five, so book the free trial and let the teacher judge readiness.

2. Edvox Music and Dance, Marine Parade

Edvox is a chain of seven Singapore music and dance schools plus one in Penang, and its Marine Parade branch is at Block 86 Marine Parade Central, #03-209. Piano lessons are individual and run from beginner to advanced, for children and adults. The exam track is ABRSM, and Edvox says more than 1,539 of its students have earned ABRSM distinctions.

For children aged three and a half to five, the Funtime DoReMe group course comes first. It mixes singing, movement, keyboard, violin and percussion in a small class, and it runs at the Marine Parade branch. Edvox does not publish its fees.

Why kids will love it: In Funtime DoReMe a four-year-old gets hands on a real keyboard and a violin in the same course, which helps them pick the one they like. Every student can play at Talento, the year-end concert, and stronger pianists can audition to perform as soloists. Previous concerts have been held at the Victoria Concert Hall and the Singapore Conference Hall.

3. SmallGiant Music, Katong Shopping Centre

SmallGiant opened on level 6 of Katong Shopping Centre in 2021 and teaches piano, guitar, ukulele and drums. Piano is one to one, or in a small group of three or four children if yours would rather learn with friends. Advanced students prepare for ABRSM or Trinity, Grades 1 to 8, and the school also runs a preparation course for music DSA, the Direct School Admission route into secondary school.

It is a single studio with a teaching team of seven named on its site. It does not publish prices or opening hours, and there is no MRT at the door.

Why kids will love it: Every lesson includes singing and ear-training games alongside the keys, so a child trains their ear as well as their fingers. A child who wants company can learn in a group of three or four instead of alone. Take the lift nearest the security post to level 6, and the studio is on the left.

4. Juzmusic Academy, Parkway Centre

Juzmusic has run since 2006 and teaches from the ninth floor of Parkway Centre. It offers classical and pop piano, and says it is one of the few schools in Singapore teaching Suzuki piano, where a child learns by ear first and reads music later. The Suzuki track is a weekly individual lesson plus a monthly group lesson and a graduation concert. Students on the standard track prepare for ABRSM or Trinity. Lessons run in the studio, at home or online.

Juzmusic does not publish fees, and says to contact it for current pricing. Its own FAQ recommends 45 to 60 minutes a lesson for children preparing for exams, and 30 minutes for beginners.

Why kids will love it: Juzmusic says a child plays a simple song by the end of the first lesson, and has performed for their family at a recital within the first year. Recitals run monthly. Suzuki children also get a monthly group lesson where they play for, and learn from, each other.

5. Joy Music Studio, Parkway Centre

Joy opened on the second floor of Parkway Centre in early 2014, directly above McDonald's and at Exit 2 of Marine Parade MRT. It teaches classical and pop piano one to one, from beginner to Grade 8. Classical students sit ABRSM or Trinity. Pop students sit Rockschool or Trinity, and Joy is the only school here that names a pop-piano exam route. The piano rooms have Steinway Essex and Yamaha upright pianos, and Joy says all its teachers are registered with the Ministry of Education.

Individual lessons start at six, later than most schools here. Younger children go into the Music Explorer group class first.

Why kids will love it: A child can ask to learn a favourite song, and lessons can be classical, pop or a mix of both. Families without a piano at home can book an empty studio to practise, free, whenever it is not in use. Parents are welcome to sit in, and the 30-minute trial lets a child try the room before anyone commits.

What piano lessons cost in Katong

Only Aureus publishes a monthly fee. Joy publishes its trial and sign-up charges, Juzmusic says its trial is free, and the other two ask you to call. Everything below was read off the schools' own websites on 21 September 2026.

Two costs catch families out. The first is the instrument. Aureus and Joy both say a child can start without a piano at home. Aureus recommends at least an 88-key weighted keyboard for practice, and Joy lets its students book an empty studio to practise for free. The second is notice. Joy asks for 30 days' notice to withdraw, which it says equals four paid lessons, so read the policies before the first invoice.

How to choose a piano school in Katong

1. Pick the exam board, or decide you do not want one. Edvox teaches to ABRSM. Juzmusic, SmallGiant and Joy prepare children for ABRSM or Trinity. Aureus has its own five-grade curriculum and certification, with ABRSM or Trinity as an option. Joy is the only school here that names a pop-piano exam route, through Rockschool or Trinity.

2. Match the format to the child's age. Three schools run a group class before individual lessons. Edvox's Funtime DoReMe takes 3.5 to 5, Juzmusic's Junior Musician starts at 4, and Joy's Music Explorer is for pre-schoolers. Aureus's Musical Adventure lessons are one to one from 2.5, and SmallGiant teaches one to one from 2.

3. Decide between reading first and ear first. Juzmusic's Suzuki track teaches by listening and copying before reading, with a parent attending lessons and practising at home. It suits a child who picks up tunes by ear and a parent who can give the time.

4. Check the lesson length. Juzmusic's own advice is 30 minutes for beginners and 45 to 60 minutes for children preparing for exams. At Aureus, moving from 30 to 45 minutes adds $120 a month.

5. Count the walk. Juzmusic and Joy are in Parkway Centre at Marine Parade MRT (TE26), and Edvox is about 220 metres from the same station. SmallGiant is 420 metres from the same station. Aureus is at KINEX, about 400 metres from Paya Lebar (EW8/CC9), which suits families on the north side of the town.
