Dance Classes for Kids in Bukit Timah, Holland and Tanglin: 4 Schools Ranked (2026)

The two best-reviewed dance schools for children in Bukit Timah do not teach ballet. Dancer's Dream Studio in Dempsey and Aure Studios in Beauty World both teach Latin and ballroom, cha cha to waltz, and they hold 5.0 and 4.9 on Google from 144 reviews between them.

Ballet is here too, in two very different forms. Tanglin Arts Studio at the Hollandse Club takes toddlers from 18 months and ends every year with a show in a theatre. Cheng Ballet Academy on Bukit Timah Road trains to the Russian Vaganova method and auditions primary-school children for a full-time apprentice track.

This guide to dance classes in Bukit Timah covers Bukit Timah, Beauty World, Holland and Tanglin. It is built only from the dance schools listed on Jungle, not a survey of every studio in the area. Jungle lists seven here. We checked each one at its own website or booking system in September 2026, and three failed: two have closed and one runs only an adult class at its Bukit Timah studio. So this list has four schools.

The top 4 dance classes for kids in Bukit Timah

1. Dancer's Dream Studio, Dempsey

Dancer's Dream Studio is a Latin dance school for children, and it is the only school on this list that teaches nothing else. The programme runs from Twinkle Tots at two and a half, through levels called Ruby, Bronze, Silver and Gold, to a Teens class for 11 and over. Students sit the UKA medal examinations, the syllabus of the UK Alliance of Professional Teachers of Dance. An advanced group, entered by audition, trains 1.5 hours a week and competes in Singapore and overseas. The studio has 12 instructors and more than 195 students. Its artistic director, Lorencia Kan, is a licensed WDO adjudicator.

Two catches. Classes run on Saturdays and Sundays only. Parents cannot sit in, because the studio wants children to learn without an audience, so it sends class videos home instead. The studio is on the third floor of the only three-storey building behind Blocks 8 and 9 on Dempsey Road, and visits outside class are by appointment.

Why kids will love it: Cha cha, samba and jive, taught through games for the youngest and full routines for the older ones. Children dance with a partner, which most ballet classes never do, and every student can perform in the year-end production. The studio asks for leggings or pants, a fitted top and clean socks.

2. Aure Studios, Beauty World

Aure Studios is a dance and fitness studio at #08-01, Bukit Timah Shopping Centre, 250m from Beauty World MRT. Adults come for salsa, Zumba and yoga. Children come for dancesport, which is competitive Latin and Standard ballroom. The Kids Dancesport classes run 90 minutes for ages 6 to 12, with an intermediate class on Sundays and a Teens Dancesport class for 8 to 16. Alongside those are Kids Pop Danz in two age groups from 4 to 11, Kids Hip Hop on Mondays and a Young Dancers class for 4 to 6 on Fridays. Students perform in recitals and enter dancesport competitions. The studio does not name an exam syllabus.

It is the only school here that sells classes by the credit rather than by the term. That suits a family that cannot promise the same slot for 17 weeks. It also means a popular class can fill: the Monday Kids Hip Hop class had a waitlist when we checked.

Why kids will love it: The ballroom classes teach the dances children see on a competition floor, from cha cha to waltz, and the posture work that goes with them. The pop class is closer to a music video. Four-year-olds start in Young Dancers or Kids Pop Dance, which last 45 minutes, about the right length for a first class.

3. Tanglin Arts Studio, Hollandse Club

Tanglin Arts Studio was founded in 2007 and teaches inside the Hollandse Club on Camden Park. Its founder was Kathleen Quinn, a former prima ballerina with Atlanta Ballet, and owner and director Katja Paus has run it since 2011. Its syllabus is the clearest on this list: Leap 'N Learn for the youngest, ATOD (Australian Teachers of Dancing) for ballet, jazz and tap, and Acrobatic Arts for acro. Exams are held every May, and the end-of-year show is staged in a theatre each December. It also teaches lyrical contemporary, musical theatre, speech and drama, and singing. Most classes are capped at 10 children.

You do not need to be a club member. The studio says so in writing, members get 10% off tuition, and parking on site is free. A younger sibling can use the club playground at no charge during a lesson.

Why kids will love it: The age groups have names, Twinkle Stars, Starlites, Roses, Jades, Opals and Rubies, so a child moves up to a new one roughly every year. Toddlers from 18 months start in Dance With Me. The December show is held in one of Singapore's theatres, so the end of the year means a real stage, lights and a costume.

4. Cheng Ballet Academy, Bukit Timah Road

Cheng Ballet Academy is a classical ballet school with a professional track. Cheng Hsienfa and Tan Yaling, both former professional dancers, founded it in 2006, and it teaches its own syllabus based on the Russian Vaganova method rather than RAD or ATOD. Levels run from Baby Ballet, for children from 3, through Pre Ballet and Ballet 1 up to Ballet 7, with jazz, contemporary, character dance and a boys' class alongside. A full-time apprentice programme for primary-school dancers is entered by audition. The academy has four studios over two floors with Harlequin sprung floors, and a licensed physiotherapist on the staff.

Students perform twice a year: Révérence, the mid-year showcase, and a full-length classic in December, which was The Nutcracker in 2025. The academy marks its 20th year in 2026.

Two things to weigh. It places last here, at 4.3 from 24 Google reviews. It is also the only school on this list that publishes no fees at all. It sits at the Newton end of Bukit Timah Road, closer to the city than the other three.

Why kids will love it: Real ballet from the first lesson, in bright studios with tall windows onto the trees, and a stage twice a year. Baby Ballet lasts 45 minutes and Pre Ballet an hour. From Ballet 1, a class is 90 minutes. Arrive 30 minutes before a trial, because the paperwork and changing take time.

Three Jungle listings that did not make it

Parents will still find these three in older guides, so here is why they are not above.

• The Dance Station, Holland Grove. Closed. The school's own branch page now lists only Orchard and Sembawang, its Holland Grove timetable page has gone, and Google marks the Parksuites studio permanently closed. The school still teaches in Orchard and Sembawang, and The Dance Station, Orchard is on Jungle.
• Attitude Performing Arts Studio, Bukit Timah Plaza. Closed. Google marks it permanently closed, Bukit Timah Plaza has dropped it from its own directory, and its old web address now forwards to an unrelated site. Do not follow that link from an older guide.
• Dance Embassy, Balmoral Plaza. Still trading, but not a children's class at this address. The only class it advertises at its Balmoral Plaza studio is BollyChoreo, a Bollywood-style class aimed at adult beginners. For children it runs dance birthday parties from $250 an hour and group classes on enquiry, with no timetable published.

What dance classes cost in Bukit Timah

Aure Studios publishes every price. Tanglin Arts Studio publishes its trial fee and a starting price. Dancer's Dream Studio and Cheng Ballet Academy publish only the trial.

On the published prices, a 45-minute class at Aure on a 12-credit pack costs $25. An hour at Tanglin Arts Studio starts at $50, so by our arithmetic a 17-week August term at one hour a week starts at $850.

How to choose a dance class in Bukit Timah

• Pick the style before the school. Two of the four teach Latin and ballroom, and two teach ballet. A child who wants a tutu will not thank you for a cha cha, and a child who wants to spin a partner will be bored at the barre.
• Check the exam track. Tanglin Arts Studio enters students for ATOD exams every May. Dancer's Dream Studio runs UKA medal tests. Cheng Ballet Academy uses its own Vaganova-based syllabus, with two shows a year instead of an outside exam board. Aure Studios names no syllabus and points students at competitions and a recital. None of the four teaches the RAD syllabus.
• Decide between a term and pay-as-you-go. Aure sells credits that last one to twelve months. The other three bill by term. Cheng pro-rates fees if you join mid-term, and Dancer's Dream allows unlimited make-up lessons within a term.
• Match the timetable to your week. Dancer's Dream runs on weekends only. Aure has no children's class on Tuesdays. Tanglin and Cheng teach seven days a week.
• Ask whether you can watch. Tanglin and Dancer's Dream do not let parents sit in on regular classes. Tanglin holds viewing sessions during the term, and Dancer's Dream sends class videos home.
