Art Classes for Kids in Bukit Timah: The 8 Best on Jungle, Ranked (2026)

Bukit Timah is mostly landed houses and condominiums, with very little public housing. Its art classes for children are not in those streets. Four of the eight best-rated art classes in Bukit Timah sit within 400 metres of Beauty World MRT, in two malls: Beauty World Centre and Bukit Timah Plaza. The other four are spread across a Chip Bee Gardens shophouse, Coronation Plaza, the Pandan Valley condominium and an HDB block beside Farrer Road MRT.

This is a ranking of the art classes you can book on Jungle in Bukit Timah, Beauty World, King Albert Park, Sixth Avenue, Coronation and Holland. We started with all 12 art providers Jungle lists in the area and checked every one at its own source. Four failed. One pottery studio has stopped teaching pottery at its premises, and the other three turned out to be a gymnastics gym, a holiday camp and a play space. Because the list is Jungle-listed providers only, read it as the best of what Jungle lists here, not a survey of every studio in the district.

1. ves.studio, Chip Bee Gardens

A working ceramics studio in a Chip Bee Gardens shophouse, on the quiet street behind Holland Village. Its main business is adult wheel-throwing and handbuilding courses. The children's class is a two-hour handbuilding workshop called Let's Play with Clay, for ages 6 and up, capped at eight children. Each child makes a functional piece such as a bowl or a mug, decorates it with an animal face or scratches their name into it, and the studio fires it. Pieces are ready to collect three weeks later. Anything left more than two months after the class is thrown away.

The catch is the timetable. Every slot is on a weekday, Monday to Thursday, at 10.30am or 1.30pm. That suits a six-year-old in kindergarten or the school holidays, not a primary schooler in term time. Sign-ups are first come, first served, with no waitlist and no refunds, and a parent who wants to join in needs a ticket of their own.

Why kids will love it: Both hands in wet clay for two hours, then a real fired bowl with their own name on it three weeks later. Best for 6 to 12. Buy the four-class pack for the school holidays, which brings each class down from $115 to $92.

2. The Art People, Beauty World Centre

The Art People has taught drawing and painting to children since 2011 and runs four studios. The Beauty World one is unit K21 on the third floor of Beauty World Centre. The syllabus is graded by age: Toddler Learn & Draw for 3 and 4 builds pencil control, the K.I.S Art Program, for 5 to 15, covers colour blending, 3D drawing and watercolour, and K.I.S Sketch for 7 and up teaches line weight, tone and still life. Older students can move on to digital art, animation and DSA portfolio preparation.

Weekly classes run 60 to 90 minutes depending on age, in small groups. New students start with a free assessment, not a paid trial, and a teacher recommends the level. The branch opens only four days a week.

Why kids will love it: A proper drawing lesson with a finished piece to carry home every week, and a clear jump from one level to the next that they can see in their own work. Best for a child aged 5 to 12 who likes to get things right. Book the free assessment on a weekend and eat at Beauty World Food Centre in the same building afterwards.

3. stART Studio, Bukit Timah Plaza

stART Studio calls itself a therapeutic art space rather than an art school, and the difference shows in how it runs. Founder Elfin Ng is a growth coach and parenting author, and the sessions are led by coaches trained in therapeutic art techniques. Every session is one hour with a maximum of six children. Children aged 5 to 12 finish with a ten-minute debrief to which the parent is invited; teenagers aged 13 to 18 come alone.

There are three routes in. Therapeutic ART is open painting without pressure to produce a perfect result. Growth ART is one-to-one coaching for children struggling with confidence, outbursts or school. Skills-in-ART teaches nine fundamentals, from drawing and colour theory to light, texture and composition. In the school holidays, Drop-in-ART turns T-shirts, tote bags and umbrellas into canvases.

Why kids will love it: They choose what to paint on a 20 by 30 centimetre canvas, nobody tells them it is wrong, and it goes home the same day. Best for a 5 to 12-year-old who gets frustrated in a results-driven class. A two-hour umbrella painting in the holidays, at $60, is the easy first visit.

4. Let Colour Soar, Beauty World Centre

A five-branch art school, at Beauty World, i12 Katong, Kovan, Novena and Tampines, whose own profile leads with DSA art portfolio preparation. The photos on its Jungle listing show what that looks like: graphite still lifes on easels, and watercolour at a shared table. There is no website. Enquiries run through its Instagram account, and the school offers a free trial lesson.

One correction. Jungle's listing puts it at #B1-06. The school's own directions, posted in May 2025, put the Beauty World branch on the second floor, unit 02-08, straight up the escalator in the mall with the McDonald's. That mall is Beauty World Centre. Go by the school.

Why kids will love it: An easel of their own and a still life to draw from, the way art students work. Suits a child who wants to learn to draw what they see rather than colour in. Book the free trial and ask which level fits your child's age.

5. Global Art, Coronation Plaza

Global Art is a franchise with a graded curriculum, and its Coronation Plaza centre on the second floor is run by a principal, Mrs Goh. Children can start at 3. The syllabus runs from lines, shapes and perspective through colour pencils, oil pastels and poster colour, with intermediate illustration from 10 and advanced drawing and painting from 13. Cartoon and comic drawing sit in the same syllabus as shading and composition. Every class on the timetable the centre publishes is 90 minutes.

The rating is the thinnest evidence in this list: 5.0 stars from two Google reviews, which is why the centre sits fifth rather than first.

Why kids will love it: Cartoons and comic strips count as real work here, so a child who only wants to draw characters still gets to, while quietly learning shading and perspective. Weekday slots start at 1pm, which suits a kindergartener. A primary schooler will want the 4pm slot or a Saturday.

6. Artistori, Pandan Valley

Artistori's site dates the school to 2013. It pairs art with speaking: children present and explain their work, not just make it. The classes are split by age. Creative Art & Speech for 4 to 7 favours many materials and free experiment over drilled technique. Fine Art & Public Speaking takes 8 to 10, Visual Arts & Presentations takes 11 and up, and a separate track prepares Visual Arts DSA portfolios. It has also run outdoor watercolour lessons in the Singapore Botanic Gardens.

It has three branches: Tampines, Hougang Green and Pandan Valley, in the Pandan Valley condominium off Ulu Pandan Road. The school's own site confirms the branch but does not print a unit number; Jungle has #01-208B. Dover MRT is a kilometre away, so most families will drive.

Why kids will love it: They get to stand up and tell the class what their painting is about, which the talkers love and the shy ones slowly get used to. Best for a chatty 4 to 10-year-old. Book the free trial on WhatsApp.

7. HiArt, Bukit Timah Plaza

HiArt was established in 2010 and has eight outlets. Its Bukit Timah branch is on the second floor of Bukit Timah Plaza, and the mall's own directory describes it as a fine art school for children from two and a half. That is the youngest starting age in this list. It is also open latest: until 9pm from Tuesday to Friday.

One caveat. HiArt's own website blocks automated checks, so the branch details here come from Bukit Timah Plaza's directory and the Jungle listing rather than from HiArt itself. Call before you go.

Why kids will love it: A real art class at an age when most studios will not take them yet. For older children the draw is the late slot: weekday classes run until 9pm, so art can come after CCA rather than instead of it.

8. ArtzGraine Art Studio, Queen's Road

ArtzGraine was established in 2009 by Jace Ng and Monica Yip, and says it was among the early pioneers of DSA art portfolio preparation. Its classes are named after grains. Millet takes 3 and 4-year-olds through drawing, cutting, painting and building. Flint Corn, for 5 to 7, covers drawing, painting and digital animation. Rye, for 8 and up, is fine art: observation, technique and a child's own style. Rye Portfolio, for 10 and up, builds a DSA portfolio for secondary schools and the School of the Arts.

The studio is on the second floor of Block 4 Queen's Road, a 1973 HDB block 170 metres from Farrer Road MRT. It publishes every price, which only two other studios in this list do. Its 4.8 from 24 reviews is the lowest rating in this list, so it ranks eighth.

Why kids will love it: Painting a whole wall. The photos on its Jungle listing show children working on a floor-to-ceiling mural, and the studio's own site shows 10 to 12-year-olds drawing still life for their DSA portfolios. Best for 3 to 12. The $35 trial is the cheapest paid first class in this list.

What art classes cost in Bukit Timah

Three of the eight studios publish their fees. Of the other five, The Art People and Let Colour Soar offer a free first assessment or lesson, and Artistori a free trial lesson with a $10 registration fee. HiArt publishes only its $75 registration fee, before GST, and Global Art publishes no fees.

On the published figures, a single class costs $45 to $55 at ArtzGraine and works out at $48 an hour at stART Studio. Pottery is the dearest at $57.50 an hour, and a four-class pack at ves.studio cuts that to $46 an hour.

How to choose

1. Decide between technique and expression first. The Art People, Global Art and ArtzGraine run graded syllabuses where each level builds a skill. stART Studio and Artistori's younger classes put the child's own ideas ahead of technique. Neither is better. A child who cries over a wobbly line needs the second kind before the first.

2. Check the timetable against school, not against your diary. ves.studio teaches only on weekday daytimes. The Art People opens four days a week. HiArt runs to 9pm on weekdays. ArtzGraine and Let Colour Soar close on Mondays and Tuesdays, and Global Art and stART Studio on Mondays.

3. Start early if a DSA portfolio is the goal. Four studios here run a DSA art track: The Art People, Let Colour Soar, Artistori and ArtzGraine. DSA-Sec applications happen in Primary 6, and a portfolio is built over terms of observational drawing, not weeks.

4. Use the free first lesson. The Art People and Let Colour Soar charge nothing for the first visit, and Artistori charges only a $10 registration fee. Try two before paying for a term.

5. Ask the class size. stART Studio caps sessions at six and ves.studio at eight. The others do not publish a cap, so ask how many children share one teacher.
