P1 Preparation Classes for K2 (Ages 5 to 6) in Singapore: 15 Schools (2026)

12 October 2026 · 13 min read

TL;DR – The Quick Version

We checked 38 schools Jungle lists for English, Chinese and maths against their own websites, and 15 run a class built for K2 children or for the move to Primary 1. Seven teach Chinese, six English and two all three subjects, the only K2 maths classes here. Most are weekly K2 classes; Hua's two holiday courses from 23 November are the only ones with 2026 dates. Only two schools publish fees, from $83 before GST to $98.10 a lesson. Browse academic enrichment for children on Jungle.

A "P1 preparation class" in Singapore can mean four quite different things. At Beijing Language School it is a weekly K2 class all year, 90 minutes long, with a spelling test every week. At Hua Language Centre it can be a four-day Hanyu Pinyin intensive in the November holidays. At Lil' but Mighty it is a two-day workshop. At Creative Campus it is K2 English pitched, in the school's words, 20 to 30% faster than the MOE pace.

This guide covers the 15 schools on Jungle that run an English, Chinese or maths class built for K2 children or for the move to Primary 1, which starts on Monday 4 January 2027. We checked 38 schools Jungle lists for these subjects on their own websites, timetables and fee pages on 12 October 2026, and left out preschool classes that simply take 5-year-olds. Only two publish fees, and the cards say so.

Start with what a K2 class covers in each subject, then the three quick picks. After that every school is grouped by area, with the four chains at the end, followed by the year-end holiday courses and MOE's dates.

In Chinese, K2 is the Hanyu Pinyin year. Seven of the 15 schools teach Chinese, and all seven teach Pinyin in K2: Beijing, Hua, Tien Hsia, Skylace, Yuquan, Hanziland and HaHa. Beijing and Tien Hsia add spelling tests so Primary 1 tests are not a surprise, and Hua's K2 class includes tingxie, the spelling dictation children meet in school. Classes run from 75 minutes at HaHa to two hours at Hua.

In English, K2 means grammar and comprehension, not only phonics. My English School, LCentral, I Can Read, Creative Campus, Megaphonics and Lil' but Mighty all add grammar, comprehension or sentence writing to reading. My English School and LCentral expect children to read short texts already; Lil' but Mighty says its workshop does not. Most English K2 classes with a published length run 90 minutes.

Maths is the gap. Only two schools here, The Eton Academy and Learning Journey, run a K2 maths class. Both say their topics follow the MOE Primary 1 syllabus, covering numbers to 100, adding, subtracting and money. Learning Journey adds number bonds and model drawing; Eton builds lessons around a weekly real-world problem.

The year-end holidays are the last stretch. MOE's calendar puts the school holidays from 21 November to 31 December 2026, and Primary 1 starts on 4 January 2027. Hua's Hanyu Pinyin Master Class and Head Start camp both start on 23 November. None of the other schools here had posted 2026 dates for a holiday P1 course on 12 October.

Is your child ready for a P1 preparation class?

  • They can sit through 90 minutes. Most K2 classes here run 90 minutes to two hours. If not yet, HaHa's 75-minute class is the shortest published, and Lil' but Mighty's workshop is two days.
  • They can read a short English text. My English School says children should ideally read short texts and answer simple questions, and LCentral's Primary Practice class is for children who already read. If not yet, start with a reading class from our English and phonics guide.
  • They know some Hanyu Pinyin, if you are looking at a holiday intensive. Hua's four-day Master Class assumes the basics. If not yet, a weekly K2 class that teaches Pinyin through the year, such as Tien Hsia or Skylace, is the better start.

If one of the three is not there yet, a trial or an assessment will tell you more than any checklist. Tien Hsia runs a free trial class, Creative Campus charges from $80 for one, and My English School, LCentral and I Can Read place children with a free assessment.

Quick picks

Best for a first-timer

Tien Hsia Language School

Tien Hsia Language School

Tien Hsia is the only school here with a free trial class, so your child can try a K2 lesson before you pay anything. Its Kindergarten 2 Prep 'n' Fun Programme keeps one teacher to ten children, uses a play-based approach with teachers trained in early childhood education, and builds up spelling and short tests so Primary 1 is not a shock. The catch: neither fees nor lesson length are published.

Best value

The Eton Academy

Of the two schools here that publish K2 fees, Eton costs less per hour at every centre: $92.65 with GST for a 1 hour 45 minute lesson on weekdays, or $85.02 at Canberra Plaza, against $90.47 for 90 minutes at Creative Campus. It is also one of only two schools here with a K2 maths class, next to English and Chinese. The catch: you pay for a 12-week term up front, plus registration and a deposit.

Price: $92.65 a lesson on weekdays and $98.10 at weekends, with GST, charged for a 12-week term ($85.02 and $90.47 at Canberra Plaza). Registration is $54.50 and a refundable deposit $75 a subject.

Hua Language Centre

Hua Language Centre

Hua sets out the clearest path from K2 into Primary 1, with dates. The weekly K2 class runs two hours and follows Primary 1 textbook themes, with Hanyu Pinyin and tingxie. In the holidays it adds a four-day Hanyu Pinyin Master Class from 23 November at United Square and a Head Start camp that teaches 2027 Primary 1 work, before Primary 1 classes in January. The catch: no fees are published.

Holiday bridging courses, November and December 2026

The six weeks of year-end holidays before Primary 1 are when bridging courses run. On 12 October only Hua had published 2026 dates for one. Its four-day Hanyu Pinyin Master Class, for K2 and Primary 1 children who know basic Pinyin, runs from 23 to 26 November at United Square and Causeway Point and from 7 to 10 December at Greenwich V and Parkway Parade. Its Chinese Head Start Camp teaches next year's work from 23 November to 4 December.

The others had not posted 2026 dates. Tien Hsia says details of its December 2026 holiday programme will go up in early October, Creative Campus says its kindergarten primer classes usually start in October or November, and Yuquan announces holiday Pinyin classes a few weeks before each break. Lil' but Mighty's two-day P1 workshop has no dates at all. Our 2027 school holidays guide has next year's calendar.

Primary 1 dates from MOE

Primary 1 starts on Monday 4 January 2027, the first day of Term 1, which runs to 12 March, according to MOE's academic calendar. Children born between 2 January 2020 and 1 January 2021 registered in the 2026 P1 Registration Exercise.

If your child is in K1 now, the next exercise is the 2027 P1 Registration Exercise, for children starting Primary 1 in 2028. MOE has not announced its dates yet; its P1 registration page says registration for citizens and permanent residents runs online from June to August. From that exercise, most schools will reserve 60 places in Phase 2C, up from 40.

What changes at 7

In Primary 1 most of these schools carry children on into classes built on the MOE syllabus. Hua's Primary 1 Chinese class runs two hours, as its K2 class does, Skylace's grows from 90 minutes to two hours, and My English School's Primary 1 class is a year-long course with promotion at the end of the year. Eton's Primary 1 and 2 lessons cost $94.83 on weekdays and $100.28 at weekends at most centres.

Beijing, Tien Hsia, Yuquan, Hanziland, HaHa, LCentral, I Can Read and Lil' but Mighty all run Primary 1 classes too. Lil' but Mighty's regular classes start there, so its K2 workshop doubles as a taster for them.

How we picked these

Every school here is listed on Jungle. We checked each school Jungle lists for English, Chinese, maths or reading on its own website, timetable or fee page, and kept the 15 that run a class or course built for K2 children or for the move to Primary 1 and are trading.

General classes that take 5-year-olds but are not built for K2, such as Kumon's worksheets or Berlitz's phonics for 5 and 6, are in our Chinese and English guides instead. The quick picks are our judgement: the only free trial, the lowest published price per hour, and the clearest dated path into Primary 1.

Fees, timetables and holiday dates were read on 12 October 2026, and MOE's dates on moe.gov.sg the same day.
