Chinese Enrichment for 3 to 6 Year Olds in Singapore: 14 Schools (2026)

8 October 2026 · 10 min read

TL;DR – The Quick Version

We checked every school Jungle lists for Chinese against its own website, and 14 run a Chinese class for children aged 3 to 6. At 3 a class is songs, stories and first characters, 60 to 105 minutes long. Writing strokes start around 4, and by K2 most schools teach Hanyu Pinyin for Primary 1. Only four publish fees, from about $21 a Kumon session to $95 for a one-to-one lesson, and four run free trials. Browse language classes for kids on Jungle.

Most Chinese enrichment centres in Singapore say they teach preschoolers. What a 4-year-old actually gets varies far more than that. At Hua Language Centre it is 90 minutes of songs, stories and first writing strokes in a class of up to 10. At Kumon it is worksheets at the centre twice a week and at home on other days. At Fiaba Language Centre it is an hour of painting and calligraphy. At Berlitz it is a tutor, one to one.

This guide covers the 14 schools on Jungle that run a Chinese class for children aged 3 to 6, from Nursery 1 to K2. We checked 20 schools Jungle lists for Chinese or Mandarin on their own websites, timetables and fee pages on 7 October 2026. Every card says what a child of this age is taught, for how long, in how big a class, and the price where the school publishes one. Only four do.

Start with the summary of what changes from 3 to 6, then the three quick picks. After that every school is grouped by area, with the chains that have several branches at the end.

At 3, a class is songs, stories and play. Hua, Tien Hsia, Beijing Language School, HaHa Chinese, Yuquan and BriliBrain all take children in Nursery 1, and Fiaba, Hanziland and Kumon take 3-year-olds too. Tien Hsia keeps one teacher to six children in a Chinese-only room. Hua caps its N1 class at 10 and Beijing at 12. Lessons run from 60 minutes at Fiaba and Hanziland to 1 hour 45 minutes at BriliBrain.

At 4, writing starts. Hua's N2 class adds writing strokes and simple characters, Tien Hsia teaches the basic strokes, Beijing works on pen grip, and HaHa starts radicals and strokes. Skylace's youngest class starts here, at N2. Le Xue's 3R Independent Reader takes children from 4, and Berlitz offers one-to-one Mandarin from 4.

At 5, children read and write short sentences. K1 at Hua and HaHa means short sentences and stroke order, and Hua's K1 class is two hours long. Beijing introduces the first Hanyu Pinyin sounds in K1, and Tien Hsia starts Pinyin in the second half of the K1 year.

At 6, almost everything points at Primary 1. K2 means Hanyu Pinyin at Hua, Beijing, Skylace, Yuquan, HaHa, Tien Hsia and Hanziland. Beijing adds a spelling test every week. The Eton Academy starts Chinese only at K2, and Han Hai takes children only from 6, one to one.

Is your child ready for a Chinese class?

  • They can sit at a table for an hour. Group classes here run 60 minutes to two hours, and most with a published length run 75 minutes or more. If not yet, start with a 60-minute class at Fiaba or Hanziland.
  • They are happy to be left with a teacher. None of these schools says parents stay in class at this age. If not yet, Hua's Playgroup, for 18 months to 3, has a parent in the room.
  • They hear some Mandarin at home, or the class is built for children who do not. Tien Hsia's nursery classes are taught only in Mandarin. Hua says no prior Chinese is needed, and Le Xue is aimed at children from English-speaking homes.

If one of the three is not there yet, a trial will tell you more than any checklist. Four schools here run free trials: Tien Hsia, BriliBrain, Le Xue (for families who follow it on Facebook or Instagram) and Han Hai. Kumon offers a free diagnostic assessment instead.

Quick picks

Best for a first-timer

Tien Hsia Language School

Tien Hsia Language School

Tien Hsia is the only school here that runs a free trial, states a ratio of one teacher to six for 3-year-olds and says it never mixes levels. Nursery classes are taught only in Mandarin, by teachers trained in early childhood education, and the ladder runs a year at a time to Hanyu Pinyin in K2. Ten more centres are not yet on Jungle. The catch: neither fees nor lesson lengths are published.

Price: Tien Hsia Language School does not publish its fees online. Contact them for current prices. The trial is free.

Kumon Learning Centre

Kumon Learning Centre

Kumon is the cheapest of the four schools that publish fees: $170 a month for up to eight centre sessions of 30 to 45 minutes, about $21 each. The catch is that it is not a taught class. Your child works through worksheets while an instructor watches and gives hints, then does 15 to 30 minutes at home on the other days. Only 8 of the 21 Kumon centres on Jungle teach Chinese.

Price: $170 a month (up to eight sessions, about $21 each), plus a one-time $50 registration fee. The diagnostic assessment is free.

Beijing Language School

Beijing runs the most school-like route here. Every level from Nursery 1 is a 90-minute class. K1 brings the first Hanyu Pinyin sounds and homework the school calls essential, and K2 is a Preparatory Course for Primary One with a spelling test every week. Its Sengkang timetable has K1 and K2 classes on every day of the week. The catch: classes take up to 12, and no fees or trial are published.

Le Xue Education

Ages 4 to 62 hoursUp to 10Free trial

Children then practise them through play, songs, flash cards and drama, and read picture books on the same theme. It is aimed at children from English-speaking homes and groups children by ability rather than age. Classes are two hours, for up to 10. The website does not say which branches run the preschool class.

Branches: North-east: Kovan. Central: Bishan, Queen's Road. East: Parkway Centre, Marine Parade.

Chinese at The Eton Academy starts in K2 with Zhong Hua, an immersion class from the EtonHouse group built on storytelling, music, Chinese brush painting, classical poetry and calligraphy. There are two K2 Chinese classes a week. In Primary 1 the class switches to the MOE textbook. Its Chinese programme covers only K2 and Primary 1, and the Canberra Plaza and Sengkang centres teach Chinese only from Primary 1.

Times: Great World on Saturday at 2pm. The Woodleigh Mall on Sunday at 11am.

Trial: Bookable online. The price is not published.

What changes at 7

At 7, Chinese becomes a school subject with tests, and the schools here move children into Primary 1 classes aligned with the MOE syllabus. Hua, Tien Hsia, Beijing, Yuquan, HaHa, Skylace, Hanziland and The Eton Academy all run one. Eton switches from immersion to the Happy Companions (欢乐伙伴) textbook. Primary 1 classes here run 90 minutes to two hours.

If your child arrives at Primary 1 without Hanyu Pinyin, two schools run separate courses for it: Hua's 15-week Hanyu Pinyin Programme, for K2 and Primary 1, runs on Sundays from 2 August 2026, and Fiaba runs a Hanyu Pinyin holiday camp. Kumon carries on by level rather than age, and Berlitz and Han Hai stay one to one.

How we picked these

Every school here is listed on Jungle. We checked each one listed for Chinese or Mandarin on its own website, timetable or fee page, and kept the 14 that teach Chinese at some age from 3 to 6 and are trading. One-to-one, worksheet and art-based classes are labelled. The quick picks are our judgement: a free trial with the smallest stated class for 3-year-olds, the lowest published cost a session, and the clearest route into Primary 1.

Fees, trials and timetables were read on 7 October 2026.
