Bukit Timah Plaza has more children's enrichment centres than any other mall in the Beauty World cluster, and nowhere for a child to play. The mall directory lists 26 tuition, music, art, dance and taekwondo tenants, mostly on Level 2, and not one play area. Giggly Feet, the small paid playroom in Basement 1, has gone: its website is offline and the mall no longer lists it.
That is the building's character. Bukit Timah Plaza opened on 28 October 1978 under the Sherwood Towers flats, a brutalist block at the junction of Jalan Anak Bukit and the PIE. It has aged into a strata mall where the shopfronts are tuition centres, maid agencies, optical shops and a two-floor FairPrice Finest that never closes. The 5-year-old is here for art or drums, the parent for the supermarket.
What it does well is proximity. A child can go from a chess class in the basement to a piano lesson on Level 2 without leaving the building, and four of the centres take bookings on Jungle. There is no McDonald's, no Swensen's and no food court, but Beauty World Centre, with its rooftop hawker centre and nine classes of its own, is seven minutes away on foot.
This guide covers every kids' reason to go, place by place, with the unit, the hours and the price. Where a centre publishes no fee we say so rather than guess. For the rest of the neighbourhood, read our guide to things to do with kids in Upper Bukit Timah and Beauty World.
Quick steer
Giggly Feet was a small supervised playroom at #B1-52B, run by a group of parents, with a cassia seed pit, slides into the pit and a trampoline. Older parenting guides still list it, with hours of 11am to 7pm on weekdays and 10am to 8pm at weekends. As of 1 October 2026 its website does not resolve, the mall's directory no longer carries it, and the September 2026 indoor playground round-ups do not include it. Treat it as closed.
Nothing has replaced it. Bukit Timah Plaza has no play area, no kiddy rides and no kids' club, which is unusual for a mall with this many children in it on a Saturday morning.
Why kids will love it: Nothing, now. We keep this entry so you do not drive in for it. The nearest free play is the Forest Exploration Trail at Rifle Range Nature Park, built for ages 5 to 12, and the nearest paid soft play is at the Beauty World end of Upper Bukit Timah Road.

Ages: Was for toddlers and preschoolers.
Nearest MRT: Beauty World (DT5), Exit C.
The small things that make the building work with a child are in the basements. FairPrice Finest spans Basement 1 and Basement 2 and is open 24 hours, which makes it the place for the 7am swim nappy or the post-class snack. Pet Lovers Centre on Basement 2 (10am to 10pm) is the free ten minutes of hamsters and fish every parent ends up using.
MR DIY is on Basement 2, Jollibean on Level 1 does the soya milk, and Dorothy's Baby and Child Clinic on Level 2 is a women's and baby practice open weekday mornings and afternoons and Saturday mornings.
Twenty-six education tenants trade here, mostly tuition: Chinese, maths, science and English for primary and secondary students. Below is the enrichment layer: art, music, dance, taekwondo, chess. Four centres on Jungle come first, then seven not yet listed. Two of the eleven offer a free trial, two a paid one.

stART Studio on Basement 1. Photo: stART Studio, Jungle listing
stART Studio at #B1-06, on the same level as the supermarket, calls itself a therapeutic art space rather than an art school. Founder Elfin Ng is a growth coach, sessions are one hour with a maximum of six children, and the point is confidence rather than technique.
There are three routes in: Therapeutic ART is open painting on canvas, Skills-in-ART teaches nine fundamentals from drawing and colour theory to composition, and Growth ART is one-to-one coaching for a child struggling with confidence or outbursts. In the holidays Drop-in-ART turns T-shirts, tote bags and umbrellas into canvases, and Family Art Jam puts parent and child on twin canvases.
It is the one centre in the mall that publishes every price. The first visit is a one-hour Discovery Session at $45, usually $60. Closed on Mondays and public holidays.
Why kids will love it: They pick what goes on a 20 by 30 centimetre canvas, nobody corrects it, and it goes home the same day. Best for ages 5 to 12 who get frustrated in a results-driven class. Book the Saturday 10am slot and do the supermarket run while they paint.

Ages: 5 to 18.

Photo: Rocktone Music Academy, Jungle listing
Rocktone Music Academy at #02-23A is the band-instrument school on Level 2: drums and ukulele from age 3, piano from 4, guitar from 7, plus keyboards, vocals and pop music theory. The first 30 minutes are free, booked on the website or by WhatsApp.
After that Rocktone publishes a full fee table, which almost no music school in Bukit Timah does. Lessons are sold in packages of 12, priced by length and grade: a beginner pays $65 for 30 minutes, $80 for 45 and $95 for an hour, rising to $120 an hour at Grade 7 to 8. Closed on Mondays except by appointment. Weekday lessons run from 2pm.
Why kids will love it: A drum kit they are allowed to hit on the first visit, free. Best for ages 4 to 10 who tap on everything. Take the 30-minute trial on a weekend morning, when the studio opens at 10am.

Ages: 3 to 18.

Photo: HiArt, Jungle listing
HiArt at #02-45 is a nine-branch children's fine art chain founded in 2010, and its Bukit Timah studio takes children from two and a half, the youngest starting age in the building. It also runs latest: classes go to 9pm from Tuesday to Friday, so art can follow school and CCA rather than replace a weekend morning. The syllabus moves from drawing and painting into mixed media by age group.
One caveat. HiArt's website blocks automated checks, so the hours here come from the mall's directory and the fees from the Jungle listing. Call before you go.
Why kids will love it: A real art class at an age when most studios will not take them, and for an older child the 7pm weekday slot that does not cost a Saturday. Best for ages 3 to 10.

Ages: 2 and a half to 18.
Chess at Three Club at #B1-53 teaches chess through stories to children from age 3, younger than any other chess school we know of in Singapore. The club opens Wednesday to Sunday. Its Term 4 timetable, updated 13 September 2026, runs beginner classes for ages 3 to 4 (capped at four children), 4 to 6 and 6 and up, intermediate and advanced groups for 5 to 12, and a year-round STARS curriculum you can join at any point.
Weekday classes sit between 2.40pm and 5.30pm, weekend classes from 9am. A class needs two children to run and takes eight at most, and one-to-one lessons are available on Wednesday to Friday at 2pm and 6.30pm. The trial is free, booked on WhatsApp. Weekly fees are not published; the five-morning holiday camps it sells on Jungle were $500 in June 2026.
Why kids will love it: The pieces have names and backstories, so a 4-year-old learns how a knight moves because the knight is a character. Best for ages 4 to 8. Book the Saturday 9am beginner slot before it fills.

Art Village at #02-22 is an art gallery, studio and academy in one, founded in 2014 by the Myanmar-born painter Nyein Su, and it teaches children and adults in the same rooms where the gallery hangs. Lessons are with practising artists rather than a franchised syllabus, which suits a child who already draws and wants to be taken seriously. Its own site confirms the Bukit Timah Plaza branch and hours. Fees and ages are not published.
Why kids will love it: Painting in a real gallery, with their teacher's work on the wall. Best for ages 7 and up who have outgrown craft. Closed on Mondays, and Friday opens only at 2.30pm.

Artgrain's Bukit Timah branch has been on Level 2 since 2012, in a run of units around #02-11, and it is the technique school of the mall's three art studios: drawing, painting and working across media, with a stated aim of mastery rather than play. It is a three-branch chain with Woodlands and Upper Thomson studios. The mall directory gives the hours; the fees are on enquiry. Closed on Tuesdays, which catches people out.
Why kids will love it: Being taught how to shade properly, then being told their work is good because it is. Best for ages 6 to 14 who want to get better rather than just make something.

Le Spiccato Music at #02-01 is the classical school on the floor: piano, violin, viola and cello, plus an early-years music class for preschoolers. It opens seven days, late on weekdays and from 9am at weekends, so an after-school lesson is easy to fit. Its site is not online and the mall directory is the source for hours; fees are on enquiry.
Why kids will love it: A quarter-size violin that fits, and a teacher who starts them on real repertoire. Best for ages 4 to 12 heading for ABRSM grades.

Kel's Music School at #02-17 has taught since 1999 and pitches itself at preschoolers and beginners, with group lessons built around songs and games before an instrument. It is the gentlest entry point to music in the building, and the shortest hours: midday to 6pm, seven days.
Why kids will love it: Singing and percussion before anyone asks them to practise. Best for ages 3 to 6.

Double D Taekwondo at #02-01E is the one martial art in the mall, with sessions from 3pm to 9pm on weekdays and 9am to 7pm at weekends. It is a single-studio school with no website, so the mall directory is the only published source, and it was not among the six Bukit Timah taekwondo schools we could verify at source for our ranking. Fees and belt-test charges are on enquiry.
Why kids will love it: Kicking a pad as hard as they like and being praised for it. Best for ages 5 to 10. Watch a class from the corridor before you commit; the glass front makes that easy.

Jan & Elly at #01-01S is an English enrichment chain for ages 4 to 12, running Phonics for N2 to K2, ReadWrite for K2 to P1, Primary English and Primary Composition up to P6, and holiday programmes. It was advertising a free phonics assessment and trial class until 30 September 2026; ask whether the offer has been extended before you book. Closed on Thursdays.
Why kids will love it: Phonics taught as a game, with a book to read aloud at the end. Best for ages 4 to 7 who are starting to read.

MindSpace at #01-15 is MindChamps' after-school student care for Primary 1 to 5, open 12.30pm to 7pm on school days and from 7.30am in the holidays, with homework supervision, meals and showers. At weekends the same unit runs enrichment in English, maths, science and Chinese for Primary 1 to 5 and a PSLE programme for Primary 5 and 6.
It took over the ground-floor unit that was a ballet studio for 20 years, which is why older guides still send dancers to #01-15.
Why kids will love it: Homework done before pick-up, and a shower after PE. Best for working parents of a 7 to 11-year-old at a nearby primary school.

The tuition row on Level 2 is long enough to need its own list rather than entries.
Two of the twelve offer a free trial. For the island-wide list, read our guide to free trial classes for kids in Singapore. Browse Bukit Timah Plaza classes on Jungle.
Food is the building's weak point, so plan before you arrive at 12.30pm with a hungry child. There is no food court and no fast food apart from a Subway. None of the 17 food tenants in the mall's directory publishes a kids' menu, kids-eat-free deal or children's buffet price.
What the mall does have is cheap, quick and local, mostly in the basements, and a 24-hour supermarket for the picnic option.
Dessert by floor: Le Tian Tian on Basement 2, Dino Cake House and Nonya Delicatessen on Basement 1, Jollibean on Level 1. If you want a children's menu, Beauty World Centre's food centre and McDonald's are a seven-minute walk. The only Bukit Timah kids-eat-free deal in the September 2026 lists, Lazy Lizard's free weekend meals for under-11s, is on Bukit Timah Road at Sixth Avenue, not here.
Bukit Timah Plaza sits at 1 Jalan Anak Bukit, where Upper Bukit Timah Road meets the PIE, and no MRT station links to it under cover.
The reason to be here is the class, so pair it with the other side of the junction.
