Piano and Music Classes for 4, 5 and 6 Year Olds in Singapore: 35 Schools (2026)

16 October 2026 · 20 min read

TL;DR – The Quick Version

We checked every school Jungle lists for music at ages 4 to 6 against its own website, and 35 run a class a child this age can join. At 4 most children start in a group: a keyboard course, often with a parent beside them, or music and movement with no instrument to learn. From 5 more schools teach one-to-one piano. Group classes cost $40 to $61 where fees are published, one-to-one lessons $42 to $72. Browse kids' piano classes on Jungle.

Most music schools in Singapore say they teach children from 4. What a 4-year-old actually gets varies far more than that label. At Yamaha it is a group keyboard course of 5 to 10 children, with you sitting beside your child. At Aureus it is a 30-minute one-to-one lesson. At Joy Music Studio it is a year of trying four instruments while parents wait outside, and at The Music Scientist it is songs about science, with no piano at all.

This guide covers the 35 schools on Jungle that run a piano or music class a 4, 5 or 6-year-old can join. We checked each one on its own website, fee page or timetable on 16 October 2026. Every card says whether it is a group course or a one-to-one lesson, the starting age, whether a parent sits in and whether you need an instrument at home. For under-4s, see our guide to music classes for babies and toddlers.

Start with what changes between 4, 5 and 6 and how group courses differ from one-to-one lessons, then the three quick picks. After that every school is grouped by area, with the six chains at the end. Eighteen of the 35 schools do not publish fees, and their cards say so.

At 4, most first classes are groups. Thirty of the 35 schools take 4-year-olds. Group keyboard courses such as Yamaha's Primary Course, MYC's Sunshine and Cristofori's I CAN PLAY run 45 to 60 minutes. Music and movement classes at Our Music Studio, Kindermusik and The Music Circle need no instrument. Yamaha and MYC Orchard want a parent in the room, while Joy, Medley and The Music Circle are drop-off.

At 5, one-to-one piano opens up. Cristofori, Bloom, Mandeville, Learn 2 Play and The Music Circle start individual piano at 5, and Play By Ear's pop piano course begins there. MYC starts new beginners at Sunbeams 1, and 555 Beatbox and Believer's holiday cajon class take children from 5. Aureus, Groove, Rocktone and LVL already teach one-to-one from about 4, and Nousound from four and a half.

At 6, preschool groups wind down. Creative Hearts, Fasosola, Juzmusic, Joy and The Music Scientist end their classes for 4 to 6, and so does Drum Tutor's Ankle Biter. Yamaha's Pre-Junior and Piano Course for Children start at 6. Stradivari suggests piano from 6, The Music Circle starts violin at 6, and Mandeville calls 6 a suitable age for a first exam.

Group class or one-to-one?

A group course teaches two to ten children from the same book. Cristofori's I CAN PLAY takes two or three children, Creative Hearts three, Bloom up to four, Joy up to five and Yamaha five to ten. Group classes cost $40 to $61 where fees are published, and several ask a parent to sit in. Yamaha and Mandeville expect an instrument at home from the start.

A one-to-one lesson follows your child's pace. Lessons for this age run 25 to 45 minutes and cost $42 to $72 where fees are published. Most schools say little about how they teach a 4-year-old. Groove and LVL want a piano or weighted keyboard at home soon after lessons start, and Aureus recommends one for practice.

Some classes have no piano to learn. Music and movement, singing and beatbox count as music classes at this age, and the cards say plainly which they are.

If you are choosing between the three biggest chains, our Yamaha vs Cristofori vs Aureus guide compares them side by side.

Is your child ready for a music class?

  • They can follow a teacher in a small group for 45 to 60 minutes. If not yet, start with a 30-minute one-to-one lesson, such as Aureus, Nousound, Rocktone or Drum Tutor.
  • You can sit in every week, or they are happy to be left. Yamaha asks a parent to attend the first year, Learn 2 Play's preschool piano is parent-and-child, and Drum Tutor wants you there for the first four lessons. Joy, Medley, The Music Circle and Kindermusik's Level 3 are drop-off, and Rocktone keeps parents out of lessons.
  • You can give them an instrument at home. Yamaha asks for one as soon as lessons start and Mandeville from the start. If not yet, choose a class that needs none: Joy includes a keyboard and ukulele with its full programme, Edvox provides an instrument, and Kindermusik, The Music Scientist and The Music Circle need no piano at home.

If one of the three is not there yet, a trial will tell you more than any checklist. Yamaha, Aureus, Rocktone, Drum Tutor and Joy's Music Explorer offer free trials. Creative Hearts charges $21, Nousound $28, The Music Circle $40 and Bloom $49.

What Age Can My Child Start Piano Lessons?

Your child can start piano lessons at 4, in a group keyboard course or a one-to-one lesson, and two schools start preschool piano at three and a half.

Cristofori's I CAN PLAY, for 3.5 to 5, teaches two or three children together, and Learn 2 Play's Pre-schoolers' Piano Course, for about 3.5 to 4, is parent-and-child. Yamaha's Primary Course takes 4 to 5.5-year-olds in groups of 5 to 10, with a parent beside them in year one. Groove, Rocktone and LVL teach piano one-to-one from about 4, and most Aureus pupils start at around 4 to 5. Rocktone keeps parents out of lessons.

The next step comes at 5. Cristofori, Bloom, Mandeville, Learn 2 Play and The Music Circle start one-to-one piano at 5, and Yamaha moves children to one-to-one piano from 5.5. Stradivari prefers to start piano at 6, and Mandeville calls 6 a suitable age for a first exam.

Quick picks

Best for a first-timer

Joy Music Studio

Joy Music Studio

Music Explorer lets a child try four instruments before choosing one: vocals, keyboard, ukulele and violin, four lessons each, in groups of up to five. It has the most published slots of any single studio's class for this age, 11 a week this term, and the trial is free. Nothing needs buying: the full two-term programme comes with a keyboard and a ukulele. The catch: parents wait outside, and the school's pages give two different age ranges.

Price: $430 for a nine-lesson term ($48 a class). Free trial.

Yamaha publishes the clearest route from a first group class to graded piano. The Primary Course takes 4 to 5.5-year-olds for two years in groups of 5 to 10, with a parent in the first year. One-to-one piano follows from 5.5, on books Yamaha maps to ABRSM grades. Fees and lesson lengths are published for both courses, and January 2027 classes are listed at seven schools. The catch: an instrument at home from the start, and no replacement lessons.

Price: $534 for an 11-lesson term ($49 a class), or $498 on weekdays ($45 a class). Free trial.

One-to-one drumsAges 4 to 6Parent sits in, first 4 lessonsDrum kit advised after 3 months

Ankle Biter is a weekly 30-minute one-to-one drum lesson for 4 to 6-year-olds on junior-sized kits. It uses the founder's Beat by Beat method of cartoons and boxes instead of notation, until children can jam along to songs. A parent must sit in for the first four lessons, and the school strongly encourages buying a drum set after three months. The school now lists its Orchard outlet at Orchard Plaza and its Katong outlet at Katong Shopping Centre.

Branches: Central: Beauty World Plaza. City: Orchard Plaza. East: Katong Shopping Centre.
Price: $170 a month on weekdays or $180 at weekends for four 30-minute lessons ($43 or $45 a lesson). Add a $50 registration fee, a deposit of one month's fees and a $21.90 book.
Trial: A free 15-minute trial, or $30 with the founder.

What changes at 7

At 7, most preschool courses end. Kindermusik's Young Child course ends at 7, and MYC starts older beginners at Moonbeams 1 from 7. Believer's kids' keyboard, Drum Tutor's Tween class and Band Academy Singapore's wind band foundation course all start at 7. Yamaha's Pre-Junior and Piano Course for Children take 6 to 8-year-olds, the second with an exam target every year.

Exams are optional almost everywhere. LVL, Music LifeStyle, Groove, Learn 2 Play and The Music Circle say so plainly. Mandeville sends children for exams only when the teacher thinks it will help, from about 6. Cristofori's route is built around RSL and CMS exams, and its Poppy packages include a Debut exam fee. Aureus assesses its own grades inside lessons, and MYC works towards a first piano and theory exam after Moonbeams 3.

How we picked these

Every school here is listed on Jungle. We checked each of the 50 music schools Jungle lists for these ages on its own website, fee page or timetable, and kept the 35 that run a class a 4, 5 or 6-year-old can join.

Fifteen were left out: they state no starting age, start at 7, teach no children, cannot be checked online or match families with private teachers. Each card says whether the class is a group or one-to-one, who sits in and what you need at home.

The quick picks are our judgement: the most published slots for a class built for this age, with a free trial; the lowest published price for an hour of group class; and the clearest published route to graded piano. Fees, trials and timetables were read on 16 October 2026.
