Taekwondo and Martial Arts for 4 to 6 Year Olds in Singapore: 39 Schools (2026)

8 October 2026 · 17 min read

TL;DR – The Quick Version

We checked every school Jungle lists for martial arts at ages 4 to 6 against its own website, and 39 run a class a child that young can join. At 4 most children start in a 45 to 60-minute tots class built on games. At 5 more styles open up, from BJJ to wushu. Thirteen schools publish a price a class, from $25 to $58, and 14 offer a free trial. Browse martial arts classes for kids on Jungle.

Most martial arts schools in Singapore say they teach children from 3 or 4. What a 4-year-old actually gets varies far more than that label suggests. At Evolve MMA it is a class only for 4 to 6-year-olds that ends in games and a bow. At The Karate Academy one class takes everyone from 4 to 14. At Martial House a 4-year-old trains for 90 minutes, and at Kravist the youngest class starts at 6.

This guide covers the 39 schools on Jungle that run a class a 4, 5 or 6-year-old can join, in taekwondo, karate, judo, Brazilian jiu-jitsu (BJJ), wushu, Muay Thai, kickboxing and kids' MMA. We checked each one on its own website, timetable or price list on 7 October 2026. Every card says which martial art, what this age is taught, for how long, and what it costs where the school publishes it.

Start with the summary of what changes between 4, 5 and 6, then the three quick picks. After that every school is grouped by area, with the schools that have several branches at the end.

At 4, most children start in a tots class. Twenty-eight of the 39 schools take 4-year-olds. Classes run 45 to 60 minutes and are mostly games: Johan, Taeseong and Gaonhae keep their youngest taekwondo classes to 45 or 50 minutes, while Gracie Barra, CADRE and The Gentle Art Academy run an hour for children from 4. Martial House's Kungfu Tots runs 90 minutes.

At 5, more styles open up. Ten schools start at 5, among them Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, FaMA and Fortitude in BJJ, Fight Academy and the Shitoryu Karate Association in karate, Pineapple and Onyx in Muay Thai, and Xuan Sports and Shaolin Club in wushu and kung fu. Several put 5-year-olds in one class with children up to 12 or 13, and the cards say which.

At 6, some children move up. Taekwondonomics, Johan, The Gentle Art Academy and Kali Majapahit move children into their main kids' class at 6, and Kravist's youngest class starts there. KyungHee, IL JIN, KTMA, Taeseong and Gaonhae keep children in a younger class until 7.

Is your child ready for a martial arts class?

  • They can copy a coach and wait their turn for 45 minutes. If not yet, choose a 45-minute tots class over a 90-minute one.
  • They are happy to be left with a group of other children. Most classes here are drop-off, though Gracie Jiu-Jitsu, The Karate Academy, Shaolin Club and Kali Majapahit let parents watch.
  • They do not mind being held or pulled in play. BJJ and judo are partner grappling from the first lesson; taekwondo tots classes are mostly kicks, forms and games.

If one of the three is not there yet, a trial will tell you more than any checklist. Fourteen schools here offer one free, including Evolve, KyungHee, Johan, KTMA, Gaonhae and The Karate Academy.

Belts, gradings and uniforms

Most schools grade every three months. KTMA, Kickmatics, the Singapore Taekwon-do Academy, Hankuk and the Shitoryu Karate Association grade quarterly, Taeseong at the end of each term, and Kali Majapahit at the end of each 12-week cycle. Most set a minimum first: 10 lessons at Taeseong, KTMA and The Karate Academy, three months at STA, and 75% attendance at the Shitoryu Karate Association.

Grading fees run from $25 to $80 where published. Kali Majapahit charges $25, STA $50 to $60, The Karate Academy $60 with the new belt included, and the Shitoryu Karate Association $80. Trifecta charges $60 to $250 depending on the belt. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu includes belt promotions in its membership.

Budget $70 to $135 for a uniform. The Karate Academy's gi is $70 to $90, Gracie Jiu-Jitsu's kids' gi $120, and Kickmatics' uniform $135, free with six months' fees. STA's uniform package starts at $130. From green belt, ILDO and Kickmatics require sparring guards.

What changes at 7

At 7, most schools move children into their main kids' class: KyungHee, IL JIN, Taeseong, KTMA and Gaonhae in taekwondo, Evolve, Carpe Diem and FaMA in BJJ, and S A Judo in judo. Gracie Jiu-Jitsu waits until 8. Classes get longer and more technical, and in taekwondo sparring usually starts around green belt, in protective gear.

Competition is optional wherever it is mentioned. Taeseong, Gaonhae, ILDO, KTMA and Johan run selected poomsae or sparring teams, Carpe Diem and Gracie Barra run kids' competition classes, and Evolve has a kids' BJJ competition team. Kali Majapahit and Kravist do not compete at all.

How we picked these

Every school here is listed on Jungle. We checked each school Jungle lists for martial arts at these ages on its own website, timetable or price list, and kept the 39 that run a class a 4, 5 or 6-year-old can join and are still trading. Nine were left out because they teach no class for this age or state no ages. Where a class mixes ages or styles, the card says so.

The quick picks are our judgement: the most classes only for 4 to 6-year-olds, the lowest price a class among schools with a free trial, and the clearest published route to a black belt. Fees, trials and timetables were read on 7 October 2026.
