Every baby swimming class in this guide puts a parent in the pool. What changes from school to school is when your baby can start and how warm the water is. Inspire Mum and Baby takes babies from 2 months, while State Swim and SwimShark wait until 6 months. Happy Fish heats all ten of its pools to 32°C. Smileswimmers teaches in public pools, where most showers have no water heater.
This guide covers the 18 schools on Jungle that run swimming lessons for babies and toddlers up to age 3. We checked each one on its own website, class pages or fee sheet on 7 October 2026. Every card says the starting age, how long a lesson runs, whether a parent is in the water, where lessons take place and what it costs where the school publishes it.
Start with what changes between birth and 3, then the three quick picks. After that the schools are grouped by area, then the coaches who come to your pool, and last the three chains with several pools.

Under 1, you are in the pool too. Every baby class here needs a parent or carer in the water. Inspire Mum and Baby starts at 2 months; Little Splashes, Smileswimmers and OtterSwim at 3 months; Happy Fish, Swish, Marsden, Little Fishes and SG Sink or Swim at 4 months. State Swim and SwimShark wait until 6 months. Lessons are songs, kicking with support, back floats and first submersions on a cue word.
At 1 and 2, the class gets busier, and you stay in. Toddler levels add jumping in to a parent, turning back to the wall and climbing out. aquaDucks' toddlers practise swimming underwater for three seconds, and Little Splashes adds a first flutter kick from 2. Groups range from four or five at Marsden and Swish to eight at State Swim and OtterSwim, and up to twelve at Smileswimmers.
At 3, some schools let go of your hand. OtterSwim's Otter classes start at 3 with no parent in the pool, Smileswimmers moves children to preschool groups from 2.5 to 3, and aquaDucks' preschool levels become unaccompanied at level 5. Others keep you in longer: Swish until 3.5, Marsden until 4, and Happy Fish through its toddler class for ages 2 to 4.
If you are unsure, a trial will tell you more than any checklist. Four schools publish a trial price: aquaDucks $43.60, Little Splashes $45, Happy Fish $50 and Inspire Mum and Baby $60 on a weekday. Swim Hub offers a free trial at selected locations.

Toddlers keep a parent in the water from 2 to 4, through four levels that end with 5 metres of freestyle. Only Happy Fish's own swim nappy is allowed.
Price: $397.85 for 10 weekday lessons ($39.79 a class) at standard pools, or $545 at weekends ($54.50). GST included. Trial $50.

Between 3 and 5, children leave the parent behind and start on a swimming syllabus. OtterSwim and Smileswimmers make the switch at about 3 and Swish at 3.5. Marsden and Inspire Mum and Baby move children to their kids' classes at 4, and Isplash after 4.5. Happy Fish keeps parents in the water through its toddler class, until its Kid class starts at 5.
SwimSafer, the national water-safety award, follows after that. Inspire says children are ready for the SwimSafer test by the end of Aqua Kids Level 4, and Isplash and Swim Masters build their classes towards it. If you want a school that goes all the way to racing, aquaDucks runs competitive training from 8.
Every school here is listed on Jungle. We checked each school Jungle lists for swimming at these ages on its own website, class pages or fee sheet, and kept the 18 that run lessons for children under 4 and are still trading. Public pools listed as venues, and schools whose classes start at 5, are left out.
The quick picks are our judgement: the most heated pools for a first class with a parent, the lowest published price for a baby class in a heated pool, and the clearest route from baby class to squad. Fees, ages and timetables were read on 7 October 2026.
