The best toddler morning in Katong is not in i12 Katong or Parkway Parade. It is in Katong Point, a four-storey building at 451 Joo Chiat Road with 18 tenants, no food court and no playground in the usual sense, where a Montessori-style play room, a 2,700 square foot sports gym, an art studio and two tuition centres sit on top of a Little Farms.
And the cheapest way to try a martial art in the district is a free trial on the second floor of Katong Shopping Centre, the 1973 strata mall on Mountbatten Road that was Singapore's first air-conditioned shopping centre and is now known mostly for its maid agencies and its chicken rice.
Neither building is a mall in the CapitaLand sense. There is no concierge, no stroller loan, no nursing room on any published floor plan, and no kids' club. What they have is six Jungle-listed merchants between them, a further four kids' tenants that are not yet listed, and prices that are lower than the East Coast Road malls a ten-minute walk away.
The two buildings are about a 15-minute walk apart, so this guide treats them as one trip and groups every entry by building. Where a centre publishes no fee we say so rather than guess. For the rest of the neighbourhood, read our guide to things to do with kids in Katong, Joo Chiat and Marine Parade.

Better Play on Level 2 of Katong Point. Photo: Better Play, Jungle listing
Better Play at #02-12, directly above Little Farms, is a quiet indoor play space for children aged 4 months to 4 years, and quiet is the point. There is no ball pit and no slide tower. The room is built around Brio train sets, wooden vehicles, figurines and Montessori-style shelves, with a parent expected to sit on the floor and play.
Entry is $25 for two hours for one child and one adult from Monday to Thursday, and $29 from Friday to Sunday and on public holidays. A second adult is $10 and siblings get 10 per cent off.
Two catches. It is closed on Wednesdays, and socks are compulsory for adults and children, with non-slip pairs sold at $3. The Playpass pack of 10 entries is $249 and can be shared between siblings. Drop-in classes, including Lucy Sparkles and Spanish music at $38 and Mandarin music at $42, come with up to an hour of free play afterwards.
Why kids will love it: A whole train table to themselves and nobody shouting. Best for ages 1 to 3. Come at 9.30am on a Monday or Thursday, when the room is close to empty, and leave the four-year-old at home; the toys will bore them.

Nearest MRT: Marine Parade (TE26), 6 minutes on foot.
Katong Shopping Centre has no play area and never did. What it has is the kind of kids' retail the new malls have lost: Harmonious Collectibles at #B1-103/104 for toys and figurines, New Katong Aquarium at #B1-23 for a tank of fish to stare at, and CubeWerkz at #02-32, a speedcubing shop that also runs classes (entry 9 below).
At Katong Point, Retrobeats at #03-05 is a drum shop that opened in April 2025, next door to Prodigy, and a seven-year-old who has just finished a sports class will want to go in.
Eight kids' classes operate across the two buildings: five at Katong Point on Levels 2 and 3, three at Katong Shopping Centre on Levels 2 and 6. Three are on Jungle and come first within each building; the unlisted ones follow. Two offer a free trial and one charges $19.

Photo: Prodigy by Proactiv Sports, Jungle listing
Prodigy at #03-01 is ProActiv Sports' own gym, a 2,700 square foot air-conditioned space split into a Movement Zone, a Sports Zone, a Climbing Zone and a party room. The Sports Zone has what ProActiv says is the only MultiBall wall in Singapore, an interactive projection wall that scores a thrown ball.
Weekly classes run from a parent-assisted Toddler Multi-Sport programme at 18 months to 2 years, through the Prodigy Multi-Sports programme for ages 2 to 12, with a Toddler Open Gym session for the youngest. Holiday camps are for ages 4 to 12, and the Prodigy multi-activity camps have their own Jungle listing.
The trial class is $19 and is for new students only. Term fees are not published; the studio answers on WhatsApp. ProActiv's published camp prices for the November and December 2026 holidays are $129 a day or from $529 a week, but those are for its OCBC Arena venue. The Katong Point camp dates and prices were not online on 1 October 2026.
Why kids will love it: Throwing a ball at a wall that lights up and keeps score, then a rock wall and the gym apparatus. Best for ages 3 to 7. Book the $19 trial for a weekday morning, when the toddler open gym is quietest.

Ages: 18 months to 12.
Chalk N Pencils at #03-08 is a fine art studio that runs small, age-banded children's classes: Tot's N Fam for ages 2 to 3 with a parent, Chalk I for 3 to 4, Chalk II for 5 to 6, Chalk III for 7 to 12 and Pencils for teens aged 13 to 17.
The ratio is one teacher to four children up to age 6 and one to six after that, and materials are included. Classes run from 45 minutes for the youngest to 90 minutes for the oldest. The studio is closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The trial is $89 for two sessions, which is more than most studios charge, and term fees are not published.
Why kids will love it: Real paint and real canvases rather than a colouring sheet, with four children to one teacher. Best for ages 5 to 10. The Saturday 9am slot is the one that fits before a Prodigy class down the corridor.

Eye Level at #03-06 is the Korean maths and English franchise, teaching children aged 4 to 15 through self-directed worksheets with a teacher checking each step. The Katong centre offers Maths, English and a Play Maths programme for the youngest. The hook is a free diagnostic test, booked by appointment, which tells you where your child sits before you pay for anything. Fees are not published online.
The published hours are afternoons only on Mondays, Thursdays and Fridays, with Saturday as the full day, so ask for the current timetable when you book the test.
Why kids will love it: Honestly, most will not love worksheets. The ones who do are the five- and six-year-olds who like finishing a page and getting the next one. Best for ages 5 to 9.

MathNous at #02-04/05 is a maths-only centre for primary and secondary students with an in-house curriculum, and it is the quieter choice of the two tuition centres in the building. It offers a free assessment rather than a trial lesson. Fees are not published.
Why kids will love it: Small groups and a teacher who explains the one method the school uses. Best for ages 9 to 12 heading towards PSLE.

Katong Point also houses a MapleBear: the infant care at #03-10/11 and the preschool at #04-01, for ages 2 months to 6. Skoolopedia lists full-day infant care at $2,280 a month and playgroup to K2 at $1,580 a month; confirm with the centre. DP Dental at #02-01/03 is a general practice, not a children's dentist.

Photo: Johan Taekwondo Institute, Jungle listing
Johan Taekwondo's Katong branch at #02-33 is one of 11 schools run by the Korean institute, and it is the only class in either building with a free trial. Classes are banded by age: Tots for 3 to 5, Kids for 6 to 14, and teens and adults from 15, with sparring and competition poomsae sessions for the older children. The branch is closed on Mondays, public holidays and grading days.
One catch: the Katong timetable on the institute's website is a 2021 PDF, so treat the class times as a guide and confirm by phone. Fees are not published.
Why kids will love it: Kicking a pad as hard as they are allowed to, with a Korean master counting in Korean. Best for ages 4 to 10. Book the free trial for a Saturday morning Tots or Kids slot.

Photo: SmallGiant Music Singapore, Jungle listing
SmallGiant Music at #06-22 teaches piano, guitar, drums and ukulele, one-to-one or in groups of three or four, from age 2 to adult. Music for the Early 'Ears' is the group class for 18 months to 3 years. Advanced piano runs to ABRSM and Trinity Grade 8, and there is a DSA preparation course for Primary 6.
The school is on the sixth floor, which is a long lift ride with a toddler, and it is closed on Sundays and Mondays. Trial lessons are offered but the price is not published, and neither are the term fees.
Why kids will love it: A drum kit they are allowed to hit, in a room where nobody minds. Best for ages 4 to 8 starting an instrument, and 2 to 3 for the group class.

Vienna Music School at #06-16 is a few doors from SmallGiant and has been in the building since May 2010, which makes it the longest-running music school in either mall. It teaches piano, guitar, drums, violin, ukulele and voice. The school now has branches at Woodleigh, Sengkang, Clementi and Seletar, but Katong was the first. Fees and trial terms are not published; the school answers on WhatsApp.
Why kids will love it: Violin, which SmallGiant does not teach, and a sixth-floor room with a view over Mountbatten Road. Best for ages 5 to 12.

CubeWerkz at #02-32 has been Singapore's speedcubing shop since 2012, and the Katong Shopping Centre unit is its main store. It sells every puzzle cube made and runs a Cubing Academy from the same unit for children who want to go from solving a 3x3 to doing it in under a minute. Class fees are not published; the shop answers on WhatsApp. It is closed on Wednesdays.
Why kids will love it: A wall of cubes and a shopkeeper who can solve any of them in front of you. Best for ages 7 to 12. Buy a beginner cube before you commit to a class.

Katong Shopping Centre also carries the tuition centres a strata mall collects: Glenn Lee Learning Centre at #02-53 for N and O Level maths and science, and Math Vigilante at #02-77 from Primary 3. Champz School House at #05-44 in the Annex block is a childcare centre with infant care from 2 months. None publishes fees online.
Two of the eight classes offer a free trial. For the island-wide list, read our guide to free trial classes for kids in Singapore. Browse Katong Point classes on Jungle.
Between them the two buildings have one food court, one restaurant with a printed kids' menu, and the most famous chicken rice in the east. Katong Point has no food court at all: Little Farms is the only place to eat. Katong Shopping Centre's food is in the basement.
Golden Cafe at #B1-124 is the basement food court, and for a strata mall from 1973 it is cleaner and better lit than you expect. The stalls run to zi char, sheng jian bao and a mala hotpot counter, with the drinks stall doing the kopi. It is where the Johan Taekwondo parents sit through a Saturday class. The published opening times disagree with each other, between 8am and 11am, but every listing has it closing at 10pm.
Why kids will love it: Sheng jian bao, which is a dumpling with a crispy bottom and therefore acceptable to a six-year-old. Best for any age. Go before 12pm on a Saturday, when the chicken rice queue has not yet filled the corridor.

Little Farms Bistro at #01-04 is the only restaurant in Katong Point and the only one in either building with a printed children's menu, the Just for Kids placemat for ages 12 and under.
The Little Farmers' Plate is a build-your-own: a protein (sirloin or salmon at $18, beer-battered fish at $16, chicken tenders at $15) with a side of mash, fries, corn or vegetables and a dip. Green Garden Spaghetti is $13, the Berry Fun pancake $12 and the Cheesy Breakfast Quesa-Pocket $13 until 2pm, and milkshakes are $9. Prices exclude GST and service charge, so add about 20 per cent.
It opens at 7.30am on weekends, which makes it the breakfast before a 9.30am Better Play slot upstairs. There is a pet-friendly terrace, and the supermarket next door at #01-01 sells the snacks for afterwards.
Why kids will love it: Building their own plate, then the chocolate banana milkshake. Best for ages 3 to 10. Book on weekends; the terrace fills by 9am.
